
PANCHKULA, Aug 12: District branch of the Indian Red Cross Society organised a declamation contest in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Geneva Convention. The contest was held at the government college in Sector 1 here today.
The topics for the contest included Super Most who? Human Rights or national sovereignty, Violation of human rights, a curse, Youth of today-how much aware towards human rights, and In the conversation of human rights-contribution of the United Nations Organisation.
Four students, including both boys and girls, from each college in Panchkula, Kalka and Barwala participated in the declamation contest which was inaugurated by the Additional Deputy Commissioner, Anurag Aggarwal. In his inaugural speech, the ADC said competitions on such issues help the youngsters become more aware as citizens of this country.
There was a large audience at the venue and people took keen interest in the event. Students of the participating colleges were also present there in large numbers. The first, second and third prize winners were Amit Kumar, Kulwinder Singh and Tarun Kumar, respectively, all of the government college, Panchkula. A special award was given away to Surabhi of Government College, Kalka.
1 kg of charas recovered, one arrested
The Panchkula police today arrested one Navdeep Sahota, a resident of Sector 4 here, in Mansa Devi T point, opposite the petrol pump and recovered 1 kg of charas from hiS possession. The police have registered a case under the NDPS Act.
