CHANDIGARH, Oct 7: DAV College-10 outplayed SD College-32, 3-2, in the Panjab University Inter-Zonal men8217;s badminton championship in the PU Indoor Hall here today.

After some initial hiccups, the DAV shuttlers pulled up an exciting win over their rivals to emerge victorious.

Though Vikas Mahajan of DAV lost to Ashish Sharma of SD-32, 12-15, 5-15, in the first singles, Amit Sachdeva DAV-10 restored parity by defeating Davinder Chahal 15-3, 15-4 in the second singles. But the duo of Gursev and Gurdev lost to Ashish and Ashirvad 8-15, 5-15 in the doubles.

However, DAV8217;s Rajat struck back in the reverse singles to beat Ashirvad 15-10, 15-2, to level the score 2-2. And in the decider Vikas and Rajat got the better of Davinder and Sukhdeep 15-2, 15-7, to clinch the issue 3-2.

Government College, Ludhiana scored a convincing 3-0 win over DM College, Moga.

Sunil outplayed Tejinder Singh 15-0, 15-2 while Prabhjit Singh defeated Lakhbir Singh 15-3, 17-16. In the doubles Sunil and Amandeep beat Tejinder and Jaswinder 15-1, 15-3.

In the women8217;s section, Khalsa College for Women, Ludhiana blanked Government College for Girls, Sector 11, 2-0.

Nazma beat Nirmal Kaur 11-4, 11-1, in the first singles while in the doubles Nazma and Anu defeated Nirmal and Jaswinder 15-1, 15-3.

In another contest, MCM DAV-36 registered a 2-1 victory over PU Campus.

Pallavi lost to Geeta 0-11, 6-11. Bhawna and Pallavi beat Geeta and Jyotsna 17-14, 10-15, 15-9. Bhavna defeated Jyotsna 11-3, 11-2.

Mahilpur college win
SGGS Khalsa College, Mahilpur outclassed DAV College, Chandigarh, 53-11, in their last league match to lift the title in the Punjab University Inter-College men8217;s kabaddi national style championship.

In the SGGS-DAV tie, the former beat their opponents in all the departments of the game. Guru Nanak College, Moga defeated GGS DAV College, Jalalabad 30-22, to win the second spot while third place went to Jalalabad college.
