Eleven SMC assistant engineers promoted
As many as 11 assistant engineers working with various departments of Surat Municipal Corporation were promoted as deputy engineers by Municipal Commissioner S Jagadeesan on Sunday. Four other assistant engineers have been given the additional charge of deputy engineer.

Industries asked to send grievances
The District Industries Centre has asked industries to send their grievances and questions to enable it to take them up in the single window industrial follow up team’s third meeting to be held shortly. All questions should be sent on separate papers along with the unit’s name and address. The meeting will be held under the chairmanship of District Collector R M Shah. All letters should reach the DIC office at A-6/7 in the multi-storey building in Nanpura before October, it said in a statement.

Ramkatha from December 5
The Sayan sugar factory is gearing up for Morari Bapu’s recital of `Ramkatha’, to be organised from December 5 in aid of Jivanraksha Hospital. The sugar co-operative has already spent Rs 1.80 crore on the hospital. However, given the rush of patients the management has decided to augment facilities at the hospital at an additional cost of Rs 1 crore. The 80-bed hospital has a blood bank, a mobile clinic, well equipped laboratory and staff quarters among various facilities.

Parmar wins SMC Seva award
Rameshbhai Parbhubhai Parmar, a teacher in Nagar Prathamik School no 77 in Sayyedpura, has won the `Vishishta Seva Award’ given by the Surat Municipal Corporation. A resident of Valesa village in Mangrol taluka of the district, Parmar had taught several diamond cutters without charging any fees.

IMA office-bearers elected
Dr Tony Nicholas has been elected president of the Surat branch of Indian Medical Association for 1998-99. Dr Paresh Munshi and Dr Nimish Shelat have been elected vice-presidents, while Dr Vinod Shah has been elected the honorary secretary. The other office-bearers include: Dr Valjibhai Dodia (honorary treasurer), Dr Mukesh Jagiwala (honorary joint secretary), Dr Jyotikant Shah (honorary joint secretary), Dr Rajesh R Hazirawala (honorary joint treasurer) and Dr Pragnesh Joshi (honorary assistant secretary).

Youth talent contest held
The 31st youth talent competition of the Mandvi taluka of the district was held at Mandvi High school recently. Trustee of Mandvi Education Society Dhansukhbhai Shah inaugurated the competition at a function while Bardoli MLA Rajnikant Rajwadi presided. Society chairman Kantilal Ghayal and honorary secretary Mahendra Vaidya were among others who were present. As many as 25 components of the competition were held at the school. Students from 14 institutions took part in the competition.
