PANCHKULA, Sept 26: The Haryana Tourism department organised a cycle rally-cum-race and an aero-modelling display as a part of its silver jubilee celebrations on the eve of World Tourism Day today.

The rally, in which as many as 1,000 children participated, was flagged off by Haryana Minister of State for Tourism Om Parkash Jain at Puffin guest house in Chandigarh. It concluded here at the Red Bishop Tourist Complex. After a brief halt at the Complex, Deputy Chairman of the Planning Board, R.S. Chaudhary flagged off the cycle race from the venue which concluded at the Cricket Stadium in Sector 5. The race had separate sections for boys and girls in the age group of 10-15 years.

A prize distribution function was held at the Cricket Stadium. In the girls section, the first, second and third prizes were bagged by G. Nice Kang, Monika Sharma and Amandeep Kaur respectively. In the boys section, Ankur Kaul and Vivek Sharma won the second and third prizes. The first prize was withheld following complaints regarding the age of the winner.

The aero-modelling show began with an impressive display by the quot;Eaglequot; aircraft which showered flowers on the chief guest, Deputy Commissioner Vivek Joshi. It was followed by quot;Pushpakquot;, carrying the banner of Haryana Tourism. When quot;Eaglequot; took off again to drop sweets for the kids, it developed some technical snag and crashed.

The programme ended on a patriotic note with an aircraft taking off with a tricoloured quot;Jai Hindquot; banner. Members of Delhi-based Modellers Educational Society presented the national anthem.
