MUMBAI, July 14: A brace by medio Richard Robert helped Bombay Customs team clinch a 3-2 win against Colaba Young Stars CYS in a WIFA Senior Division football at the Cooperage today.

With this victory Customs have tallied 19 points from eight matches while CYS have three points from six matches which came from their win against Mahindra Tractors.

Robert opened the scoring in the 25th minute against the run of play when he played a one-two with striker Milton Fernando. The mid-fielder crowned the move with a neat placement to right of goalkeeper Arshad Ansari.

Robert scored the second early in the second-half to put Customs ahead by two goals. He released the ball to substitute AS Nazeer who dribbled past an advancing Ansari before passing to an unmarked Robert in front of goal. The latter made no mistake with the opportunity to put his side 2-0 ahead.

The Colaba lads came back strongly during the closing stages of the game. In the 81st minute, Mohamaad Rafique bulged the net from 30 yards with astrong left-footer. Hardworking striker CA Hamsa pushed the ball to unmarked Rafique, who out-stepped one of the Customs defender before unleashing a shot to the right of goalie Augusto D8217;Silva.

Defender Nitin Kotian added the third with a header five minutes before the final whistle. Striker Milton won a ball from CYS defender and crossed. The ball dipped between two CYS defenders and Kotian, overlapping on the right, got his head to the ball. Ansari, CYS goalkeeper, went full stretch to his right but only got a touch.

CYS again pulled a goal back from a penalty in the 86th minute. The award came after Ajit Kokate was brought down by Ajit Kumar, left-back of Customs. New recruit, mid-fielder MA Rashid made no mistake.

Despite playing an attacking game in the first-half CYS conceded a goal on a counter attack which changed the tempo of the match as the Customs players started playing more aggressively.

The Customs defence played quite close to each other which did not give much space to the CYSstrikers to enter the dangerous area. Cedric Fernandes, Nitin Kotian and Nagendra Rawat8217;s policy to clear first time closed out opportunities to the opposing strikers.

But some inconsistent refereeing decision by referee JP Singh led to ill feeling among the players. A couple of tackles by by Customs defenders on CYS strikers inside the box were suspect. After the match even Anand Singh Mall, the Customs coach admitted that the decision which went in their favour when CYS Rafique was elbowed by a Customs defender, was a harsh verdict against the losers.

While Sudhakar Mane, the CYS manager, lamented, 8220;It seems referee J P Singh had something against us as he denied us two clear penalties.8221; He added that the referee was allowing players to go for tough physical tackles which could bring serious injuries.
