A youth was murdered near KEM Hospital in Parel following an altercation over passing derogatory remarks on Saturday morning. The incident took place when Ganesh Daulat Gawde, along with his two friends, was eating in a restaurant. A person sitting alongside, named Babu Kini (33), struck up an argument with the trio.

The argument soon led to blows, the police said. In a fit of anger, Kini ran to a nearby coconut vendor, grabbed his blade, and stabbed Gawde in the stomach and chest. Amol Barve was also stabbed, the police added. Police said Kini was angered because he thought Gawde and his friends had made derogatory remarks against him. He wanted to teach them a lesson, he told the police. Gawde, who was rushed to the nearby KEM Hospital, succumbed to his injuries, but Barve is said to be out of danger. The Bhoiwada police have booked Kini on charges of murder.
