Housewife murdered
In a gruesome incident, 33-year-old housewife Bhavnaben from Goyamath village under Naswadi police station, was murdered in her sleep last night by her husband Ashwin Ranchhod Rathod. According to Naswadi police, Rathod worked as a fourth class employee in the Forest Department and spent most of his income on liquor, giving a very small amount to his wife to run the family. On may 1, he asked his wife for money to buy liquor. When she refused, he hit her with a stick when she was asleep. She apparently died instantaneously. Rathod has been arrested.

Jawan suicide
A jawan of the State Reserve Police Force, Ambalal Khamabhai Solanki of SRP Group 9, who used to work in the canteen, committed suicide this afternoon. According to Makarpura police, Solanki sprinkled kerosene over himself and set himself afire. Financial hardship is stated to be the cause of the suicide.

Vehicles stolen
Two cases of vehicle lifting were reported from different parts of the city during the last 24 hours. According to the police, a Bajaj scooter GJ-6-8569 worth Rs. 8,000 was lifted from gate no. 1 of Kamatibaug and a Maruti Esteem GJ-3-PP-8280 worth Rs 4,25,000 was apparently stolen by thieves using duplicate keys from the parking lot of Samip apartments under J.P. Road police station. Investigations are on.
