8226; Narendra Modi is a sick man 8216;Modi gets original8230;8217;, IE, April 1 whose electoral speeches make one sick. Even more appalling is that L.K. Advani lets him make such speeches! There is no decency or dignity in this campaign and the electorate is being brainwashed into a regressive mindset. The Congress has also targeted the ruling party but the BJP seems to have nothing but a one-point8212;or rather a three-point agenda8212;to target Sonia, Rahul and Priyanka. Strange politics this when criminals and their progeny are welcomed with open arms. What kind of nationalism is this when murderers and rapists are given tickets but when the three Gandhis, all Indian citizens, wish to stand for election, there is great hallabaloo over their 8220;foreign origins8221;? The worst is Modi himself. India may be shining vis-a-vis the economy but darkness is spreading like a pall over decency and Indian culture.

Looking to Tagore

8226; Like her father, Nobel Laureate Amartya Sen, Antara Dev Sen writes effortlessly 8216;Nobel gazing8217;, IE, April 1. She8217;s a sane voice amid all the noise and fury. She8217;s right. It8217;s more important to revisit Tagore8217;s vision and ideals than beat our breasts at the loss of his Nobel medal.

8226; The article is excellent. It speaks from knowledge about Rabindranath Tagore and his contribution to India. It also puts the event of the stealing of Tagore8217;s Nobel Prize medallion in the correct perspective. We Indians have this bad habit of glorifying leaders instead of trying to imbibe the qualities they stood for. Today, every political party glorifies Mahatma Gandhi, yet not one of them comes forward to propagate his principles.

Muddy times

8226; Apropos of 8216;Political mud pies8217; IE, April 1, what does the nation expect when mafia style politicians are elected to Parliament? The BJP at Ayodhya was a standard bearer of the violence that has come to Indian politics. Your paper has recorded all the crimes committed by the ruling regime over the last five years. The nation should thank its lucky stars for the highest court of the land. It has just ruled that no popular leader should be allowed to give speeches that destroy the country8217;s secular fabric.

8226; Keeping in view the vast capacity of our political class to surpass each other in lowering the standard of debate in the forthcoming elections, slander and innuendo are unavoidable. The only way out is for each ad to bear the details of the people behind it and their source of money. This will give people an idea of the real intentions behind these ads. While the media cannot be expected to refuse the good money that they get through these ads, they should also expose the hand that gives it to them.

Team India, first

8226; If the reason of Saurav Ganguly8217;s return to India is due to the 8220;declaration row8221; 8216;His team on its feet, the Captain returns to get back in shape it8217;, IE, March 31, it again shows that India Team is going back to the era of individual achievements. The new attitude of orientation to team achievement is suffering because of this. If India wins the Test series it is because of team attitude 8212; built up mainly by Ganguly.
