The robbery involved masked assailants robbing gold jewelry worth Rs 4 lakh at gunpoint after firing a shot at the victim's car.
In a brazen daylight robbery, two masked miscreants looted gold jewellery worth nearly Rs 4 lakh from a chief manager of the State Bank of India (SBI) at gunpoint in Aero City, Zirakpur, on Saturday morning. The incident occurred in Block M when the officer was on his way to office in his car.
To terrorise the victim, the robbers even fired a shot at his vehicle before fleeing the spot with the looted jewellery. The victim narrowly escaped unhurt.
According to the complaint, the victim, identified as Sudhanshu Kumar, a resident of Aero City and an SBI chief manager, was driving his car (PB03BH9349) to office around 9 am. A short distance from his house, on a slip road amid dense fog, two masked youths riding a Bullet motorcycle suddenly blocked his car.
As Sudhanshu lowered the car window, one of the accused grabbed his hand and started snatching his gold bracelet and chain. When he resisted, the assailants smashed the driver-side window with a heavy object and pointed a pistol at him, forcing him to hand over his gold ornaments. They also tried to snatch his rings.
Sudhanshu told the police, “When I tried to move the car forward to save my life, the accused fired a shot inside the car. The bullet hit the window, and I escaped by sheer luck.” After firing, the robbers fled with gold jewellery worth around Rs 4 lakh.
Following the incident, the victim raised the alarm. Police teams rushed to the scene and launched a search operation, but the accused could not be traced.
Confirming the incident, Zirakpur police station investigating officer Labh Singh said, “We have received a complaint. The complainant has stated that a shot was fired; its confirmation is being verified. CCTV cameras in the surrounding areas are being examined.”
