ROOPNAGAR, Oct 7: District president of Human Rights and Democracy Forum Sarabjit Singh today criticised theCPI M for extending issue-based support to the Congress. He questioned the secular credentials8217; of the Congress.
Speaking to ENS, Sarabjit Singh reminded that it was the Congress which had sponsored the anti-Sikh violence in 1984 in the aftermath of the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi8217;s assassination. Storming of the Golden Temple complex was another historical blunder of the then Congress regime, he said.
Criticising the Congress, Sarabjit Singh further said the party had always resorted to caste and religion-based politics during the elections. Adding that the party had encouraged excesses on the Sikh community by rewarding brutal8217; police officers in the border state. Sarabjit said that the Congress was being wrongly perceived as secular. He, however, made it clear that the minorities should maintain equi-distance from both the Congress and the BJP.
While the BJP is known for its fascist agenda, the Congress has masked itself behind secularism, he quipped. While opposing the SAD-BJP alliance in no uncertain words, Sarabjit Singh said the RSS and the Jana Sangh had always been on the forefront against the formation of Punjabi Suba.
He said the BJP had supported the establishment and its forces during militancy days in Punjab. Expressing his disillusionment with the SAD-BJP rule, Sarabjit said if the present state of affair was allowed to continue, a third alternative under the banner of Simranjit Singh Mann-led Akali Dal would stage a comeback While supporting Mann for his outpourings against the combine, he said, 8220;since people are fed with the governance of Badal, a third front is the only possibility to save Punjab8221;.
