The Army claimed to have busted a plan to carry out a major attack in Poonch area with the arrest of a woman special police officer (SPO) and two other persons from near the Line of Control in Kerni area.

On Sunday afternoon, the Army apprehended a woman special police officer, Parveena Akhtar, and her two cousin brothers Mohd Akram and Wali Mohammad, in Kerni area of Poonch after recovery of one Chinese anti-personnel mine, 9 volt battery and another device for triggering off the IED from them.

Army Spokesman Col S D Goswami, said the SPO was arrested and handed over to the police for interrogation.

He said that the SPO had received the anti-personnel mine and the other items from her cousins. It was on her disclosure that the other two were also apprehended.

Sources said that the SPO earlier worked as an Army source. She was apprehended when she left the house of her in-laws at Sian Baba near Gantorian in Poonch to go to Kerni to meet her cousin brothers. Police said she had recently married.

Police sources said Akhter remained non-committal and she disclosed that she had concealed the explosives and was travelling to her in-laws house when she was apprehended. Police officials said no information could be gathered on the source of the explosives.
