NEW DELHI, NOV 20: The Bharatiya Janata Party BJP attacked the Congress for justifying the imposition of Emergency and said that since the party was proud of the Emergency it could be expected to resort to the same black means to restore power to the 8220;dynasty8221;.

Joining issue with Congress spokesman Mani Shankar Aiyar, who said yesterday that the imposition of Emergency was well within the Constitution, BJP vice-president K L Sharma said today that the Congress had 8220;justified the dynasty8217;s onslaught8221; on the judiciary, subversion of Parliament, freedom of expression, censorship of the media and suppression of civil liberties.

That the Congress is not ashamed of the Emergency is a matter of grave concern for the entire nation and all those who cherish democracy, Sharma said. Democracy had survived in India not because of the Nehru-Indira-Sonia family, but despite their best attempts to destroy it,8221; Sharma asserted.

Referring to the opposition to the rendering of Vande Mataram andSaraswati vandana, Sharma said the BJP held the Congress and the Left parties guilty of creating an environment which is detrimental to the country8217;s security and unity.

Nationalism was being projected by the Congress and its present leadership, along with their new friends, the Leftists, as retrograde and anti-progressive, he said.

Because of this attitude, Muslim fundamentalists in Uttar Pradesh had issued a fatwa and launched a tirade against Vande Mataram and Saraswati vandana, he said and added that the first was 8220;an ode to our great nation and the second an ode to learning and enlightenment8221;.
