8220;The Congress is facing extinction in UP and to remain relevant, it is politicising crimes. Most of the murder cases reported during my regime have occurred due to personal enmity 8212; the recent incidents in Ghaziabad and Varanasi 8212; and not due to any laxity on part of the police,8221; she said.

On Monday, Gandhi had visited the family of Pradeep Tyagi, who was shot dead in Ghaziabad on December 11. Criticising UP8217;s law and order situation, he had demanded a CBI probe into the murder.

Mayawati assured the traders8217; community that the government will provide adequate security to the life and property of each citizen. 8220;The state government took prompt action in Baghpat, where three traders were recently shot dead. The district SP, circle officer and the

Kotwali inspector were immediately suspended.8221;

Mayawati criticised the Congress for remaining silent on the question paper leak of Bachelour of Dental Surgery BDS and Railway Recruitment Board exams at Meerut and Allahabad. 8220;The V-C of the Meerut University 8212; key suspect in the BDS case 8212; is close to the Governor and the Congress,8221; she said.

Mayawati also defended the admission of Arun Shukla 8216;Anna8217;, a don-turned-politician into her party.

8220;Only those tainted persons have been admitted to the BSP, who have reformed themselves and have given an undertaking to the party that they will behave in a responsible manner. Otherwise, they will be shown the door,8221; said Mayawati.

Govt supports NIA Bill
Taking a U-turn on her stand over the proposed federal investigation agency, Chief Minister Mayawati announced to extend her party8217;s support to the NIA National Investigating Agency Bill introduced in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday. She said BSP parliamentarians in both the Houses of Parliament have been directed to support the Bill during voting. On December 11, Mayawati had accused the UPA government of bringing such bills ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. She had also accused the UPA of lacking the political will to fight terror and alleged that the legislation for setting up an investigation agency was an excuse to hide the weakness of the Centre.
