Buoyed by the victory in Karnataka, senior BJP leader L K Advani is confident of having “more allies” before the next Lok Sabha elections.

The NDA’s Prime Ministerial candidate, however, remained evasive on queries about Jayalalithaa, Mayawati and Chandrababu Naidu as potential allies.

“I am not speaking in specific terms. But I am hopeful. I am certainly confident that we will have more allies by next elections,” he told a TV news channel.

On Karnataka poll outcome, the Leader of the Opposition said that the Congress “bungled badly” by not projecting a Chief Ministerial candidate. “The day S M Krishna was brought back from the Governor’s post, I had no doubt they would do it, but they bungled badly,” he said.

He wondered whether the Congress would make the same “mistake” in the general election by not projecting any individual as Prime Ministerial candidate.

“I do not know if they are going to have the same approach in the coming Lok Sabha elections,” Advani was quoted as saying by a statement released by the channel.

With his party securing 110 seats, three short of the half-way mark, Advani said both the Congress and JD(S) were less than the BJP and there is “no question of alliance with the JD(S) at the moment.”

On asked about his prospects of becoming the Prime Minister, he said, “I do not see the issue in terms of a person, not even myself. I see it as an occasion or opportunity for NDA to return to power and repeat its good work”.
