Congress leaders in the state have reacted sharply to the statement of Chief Minister Maj Gen B C Khanduri retd that action will be taken against alleged corrupt practices of the previous state Government headed by N D Tiwari. He was speaking at the national capital a day after winning the Dhumakot Assembly bypoll by a huge margin. He talked about fulfilling his election promise of taking action in more than 50 alleged scams committed during the Congress regime.

After taking over as Chief Minister, Khanduri had ordered inquiries into alleged corrupt deals in allotting land to industries by the State Industrial Development Corporation. However, since he was to contest the bypoll to become a member of the Assembly, he preferred to go slow on the issue.

Reacting to his announcement, Surendra Aggarwal, Uttarakhand Congress spokesperson, said the Chief Minister was indulging in a publicity stunt. 8220;Who stopped the CM from taking action against any corrupt deal in the past five months?8221; Aggarwal said.

Taking a dig at Khanduri, he further asked if action would be taken also against TPS Rawat, a former Congress minister who has joined the BJP.
