
NEW DELHI, JULY 9: Congress today got a boost in Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh with several prominent leaders from the two states, including former ministers, joining the party.
Roshan Beg, who recently resigned as Karnataka minister, former MP, Qamarul Islam, Raja Venkatappa Naik, MLA and Raja Rangappa Naik, former MP from Raichur and general secretary of the state JD, were the four JD leaders from Karnataka who joined the party.
From Uttar Pradesh, former Samajwadi Party MP Jagpal Singh, former minister Javed Ali Khan and a number of BSP leaders as also from the Bhartiya Kisan Union BKU were among those who joined the party.
They were welcomed into the party fold by AICC general secretary Ghulam Nabi Azad, party spokesman Ajit Jogi, KPCC president S M Krishna and UPCC president Salman Khursheed.
Krishna said the Karnataka JD leaders had joined the party unconditionally. While Beg had resigned from the state Cabinet recently, Islam had put in his papers as chairman of the State Minorities Commission.
While Islam and Venkatappa Naik belong to Gulbarga district, Roshan Beg is from Bangalore and Raja Rangappa Naik from Raichur.
