Cong dimisses Mayawati8217;s charges

Congress has rubbished UP CM Mayawati's charges that some of its leaders were conspiring to eliminate her.

Congress on Monday dismissed Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati8217;s charge that certain of its leaders were conspiring to eliminate her.

8220;I am unable to understand why is she levelling such charges. She has the complete police force of Uttar Pradesh, she has all commandoes8221;, AICC General Secretary Digvijay Singh told reporters.

Singh, who is in charge of party affairs in UP, said that the Union Government can 8220;never be part of such conspiracies, especially Congress can never be a participant in such matters8221;.

The AICC General Secretary was reacting to Mayawati8217;s statement alleging that certain Congress leaders were out to eliminate her and were 8220;patronising8221; expelled BSP MP Atiq Ahmed whom she dubbed as 8220;mafia8221;.

At a press conference here, she also accused the Congress-led coalition of following the erstwhile BJP-led Government8217;s path of 8220;harassing and trying to get her involved in fake cases8221;.

She said she would convene a meeting of her party office bearers and legislators after January 15 8220;to take a final decision8221; on the issue of support to the Centre.
