The Maharashtra crisis may have blown over, but the surface calm could be misleading. So the Congress has formed a nine-member coordination committee to ensure that its flock and state government are intact.

The panel will have veteran leader S.B. Chavan, state unit chief Govindrao Adik, Shivraj Patil, Murli Deora, Sunil Dutt and Vilasrao as members. And while murmurs of discontent against Deshmukh can still be heard here, Congress spokesperson S. Jaipal Reddy said there would be no change of leadership in the state, either at government or organisational level.

Reddy said: 8216;8216;As the political crisis in the state is over, a committee for the MPCC, with S.B. Chavan as convenor, has been constituted to ensure better coordination within the party,8217;8217; he said.

The new committee is the party high command8217;s way of telling Deshmukh he cannot be the supreme authority in the state. After meeting Deshmukh and his detractor Adik over the last two days, Sonia Gandhi had reportedly taken note of the CM8217;s high handedness.

It was felt necessary to install a measure of balance, so the coordination committee was set up, sources said. A top party source said: 8216;8216;The CM can8217;t take on so many roles. Experience shows this style of functioning affects the party. Now, MLAs will no longer complain the CM is inaccessible. If our MLAs complain, imagine what the coalition partners must be saying.8217;8217;
