VADODARA, June 8: The city-based schools could have begun the process of granting admissions to Std XI after the SSC results were declared last week, but it will be held up for another week as the Secondary Education Board is yet to distribute the marksheets to the schools. The marksheets are expected on Friday, which means the actual admissions will start only from next Monday.

Though many schools in the city have begun the admissions process on the basis of provisional marksheets, others are only distributing forms for want of a proper marksheet. Most school principals, when contacted, conceded it was difficult to actually grant admissions without proper marksheets.

Besides, as Arnawaz Havewala of Baroda High School Alkapuri says, the entire exercise has become a tedious task for the school staff since it is repetitive and the non-teaching and the teaching staff 8220;have to be involved unnecessarily8221;.

She said, 8220;We have begun giving admission in our school and have also distributed a provisional marksheet, but admission forms and the fees from the students will be collected only on Monday after the marksheets are distributed.8221;

Alembic Vidyalay principal Harshad Patel echoed Havevala8217;s views when he said it was not only problematic for the students but also for the teachers.8220;The teachers have to be called once for preparing a marksheet so that the students interested to take admission in other schools can apply and then they have to submit their original marksheets.8221;

He added that unless the marksheets are received the school authorities cannot be sure whether the marks declared are authentic or not. He added that most of the students who come to apply from other schools cannot even apply due to the delay in the marksheets.

Fr V A Stephen, principal of Basil School, said, 8220;We have initiated the process by distributing the forms but we can grant admissions only from Monday, after the marksheets are distributed.8221;

Meanwhile joint secretary of the SSC Board S R Macwana dismissed all problems of the double procedure for teachers and principals and added that it would not be a difficult task for the students as those who want to appear for science could do so with the provisional marksheets provided by school principals.

He added that the difficulty would arise only if the students want to apply for the diploma courses then would it be a problem. He added but by that time the students would have one week in hand to decide what branch of studies they would want to persuade.
