CHANDIGARH, May 26: Two more operation theatres have become functional at the Command Hospital, Chandimandir, bringing the total number of operation theaters to seven.

quot;Given the work load, the need for additional operation theatres OT was being felt for a long time,quot; a top hospital functionary said.

Funds were made available out of the hospital8217;s existing resources and about Rs 1 lakh was utilised on setting up the two OTs.

The Command Hospital, apart from dealing with a large number of serving and retired defence personnel as well as their dependents, also handles battle casualties and other patients evacuated from Jammu and Kashmir. quot;The existing OTs were already under a lot of pressure.quot; an AMC officer said.

Meanwhile, sources say that the Western Command Dental Centre, presently situated at Delhi, is being shifted to Chandimandir. quot;Sanction for shifting the centre has already been accorded and it is now a matter of time,quot; pointed out a senior officer.

Presently, the 2 Corps Dental Centre is functioning from Command Hospital, which will be moved to Ambala once the Command Dental Centre shifts here. Officers say that since the Western Command Headquarters as well as the Command Hospital are located at Chandimandir, the Command Dental Centre should also be functioning from the same location.

The Dental Centre has five specialists and is equipped for all major treatment, including maxillofacial surgery, which requires reconstruction of the entire jaw and cheek bones in case of a serious accident.

Hospital sources add that the recently set up Renal Dialysis Centre is also being expanded, with four more dialysis machines being installed and plans to introduce renal transplant surgery in the near future.
