According to a senior police officer, Hajira Begum had worked at the victim’s house at 8th ‘A’ Main Road for three years (from 2022 to 2024) before leaving for a three-month break. “The couple reportedly used this period to plan the theft. After rejoining the household just before the New Year, they both executed the crime,” the officer said, noting that Hajira was familiar with the house’s valuables, having worked there for a considerable period.
The businessman had travelled out of state with his family on December 30 last year to celebrate the New Year. Upon returning the next day, the family discovered that gold ornaments, silver items, and seven expensive watches had been stolen from the cupboard. On the same day, the family lodged a complaint with the Sadashivanagar police station.
Investigation revealed that Hajira had contacted her husband to carry out the theft once the houseowner and his family left the house. Using CCTV footage and other technical methods, the police were able to track down the accused and recover the stolen items.
Both Hajira and her husband were produced before the court on and remanded in judicial custody. Further investigations are underway, the police said.
