Indian content creator Vagmita Singh has caught the Internet’s attention after she shared a video explaining why she vacations outside India. Sharing the video on Instagram, Singh, who creates content around comedy and life situations, hoped India was safe for its women, sparking a conversation amid several cases of harassment and assault hitting headlines every day.

Addressing the comments asking why she “runs abroad” every chance she gets, Singh shares that she was vacationing in Seychelles and walking by the beach all by herself with no people within her sight. She further says that no one attempted to make her uncomfortable by staring or catcalling, highlighting that such is not the case while travelling alone in India.

“I have a cycle. I am gonna cycle back to my hotel. Nobody has looked at me, nobody has cared to leer at me, or check me out or hoot at me or catcall me. And this is exactly why I run abroad every chance I get,” Singh says in the video.

The video has since gone viral across all social media platforms, highlighting safety issues concerning women in India. Several users agreed with Singh, with one commenting, “Oh absolutely. I was walking in Thailand in a random street in old Bangkok at 4 in the morning coz i was at a club and was waiting for a girl. Safest I’ve felt in my life. 30 years of existence and never felt as safe in my own country. Which is sad.”

“I ran so hard, I moved abroad. I love India and miss it every single day, but I love my freedom more,” another user commented. “Yes women’s are not safe in India. The way things are going , if you are not politically linked ,or a thief or murderer or rapist or rich , you are not safe in India anymore,” a third user reacted.

Recently, an FIR was filed against an intoxicated man in Goa for harassing a foreign woman at a beach party. The video circulating online showed the man dancing towards the woman with cash in his mouth. Angered by the move, the woman pushed him away.
