Soon after the twin blasts in Hyderabad that killed 43 people, the state police named several suspects. But a month later, the police seem to be losing the plot

Ghazi: This 20-year-old Bangladeshi allegedly overstayed in Hyderabad without valid documents. Ghazi’s (pic) photographs recovered from his house in Kishanbagh resembled the identikit of the Lumbini park bomber, the police said initially. But after his arrest on September 21, police booked him only under the Passport Act. They had no evidence against him for his role in the blasts. Ghazi is now in judicial custody

Shafia Rafsanjani: Rizwan’s sister is a Bachelor of Arts student at the Auxilium College in Katpadi near Vellore in Tamil Nadu. She was picked up when she landed in Hyderabad after the blasts to visit her brother Rizwan. She is now in judicial custody and faces charges under the Passport Act

Irfan Ghazi: Rizwan’s 12-year-old brother allegedly disappeared from his home in Hyderabad after the August 25 blasts

Masiluddin: This 24-year-old cloth merchant from Bangladesh is said to be Rizwan’s roommate. Masiluddin (pic) is also alleged to have overstayed without legal documents. Police say he disappeared a month after the Mecca masjid blast

Hussaini: An 18-year-old Bangladeshi studying at a local madrasa and said to have stayed with the Ghazis. Hussaini (pic) disappeared around four days after the August 25 blasts ohammed Abdul Shahed alias Bilal: He is the fifth son of a retired government schoolteacher at Malakpet in Hyderabad. Bilal’s name was first linked to a terrorist attack in Hyderabad following the October 2005 suicide bomb blast at a police task force office in Hyderabad. Investigations revealed Bilal produced the bomb, sent the suicide bomber from Bangladesh and organised local logistics through trained associates

Mohammed Abdul Majed: The 40-year-old brother of Bilal, according to police records. Was named by his youngest brother Zahed as the distributor of funds that Bilal’s sources sent to Hyderabad

Mohammed Abdul Samad: The 38-year-old Saudi resident is the second of Bilal’s brothers. Was also named by brother Zahed as the source of funds for Bilal’s activities in Hyderabad

Abdul Khaja: Bilal’s protégé. Said to be involved in October 2005 attack

Abdul Kaleem alias Rafee: Khaja’s younger brother. Kaleem (pic) is said to have purchased SIM cards in bulk to be allegedly distribution for terrorism-related activities. He was already on the police radar for the Mecca masjid blasts when the August 25 blasts occurred

Sheikh Sameer alias Nayeem: BSF arrested this 26-year-old alleged Lashkar operative and West Bengal resident around April 1, 2007. Being probed for role in July 2006 Mumbai train blasts cases. He reportedly confessed to having transported 10 kg of RDX to Hyderabad

Abdul Sattar: Recruited by Mohammed Abdul Shahed, one of the city’s most wanted terrorists. Sattar was sent to Pakistan in early 2005 for a 21-day training camp in explosives and weapons. After the Mecca masjid blasts, the Hyderabad police tried to use him as a mole to infiltrate Shahed’s network in Bangladesh. The attempt failed and Sattar landed back in police custody

Imran Sayeed: A 23-year-old student of engineering in Hyderabad, Sayeed (pic) worked part-time at a call centre

Shoaib Jagirdar: Imran Sayeed’s uncle, a butcher from Jalna in Maharashtra. Was initially arrested in connection with May 18 blast probe. He was later charged only under the Passport Act for helping Sheikh Sameer get a fake passport

Mohammed Sharifuddin alias Kanchan:ice sources say this Bangladeshi national is linked to HuJI
