1. In the order passed by the Division Bench of the Bombay High Court comprising Justice Ashok Agarwal and Justice Vishnu Sahai on December 9, 1997, no reference was made either to Dr S N Deshmukh husband of the Vice-Chancellor or to the Vice-Chancellor as regards the joint inspection report tendered by the Committee appointed by the Court in which Dr Deshmukh was the University nominee.
Further, no reference was made to their son-in-law in the said court order.

2. The said report was not quashed by the High Court and no remarks were made by the judges that as a matter of propriety, Dr Deshmukh, husband of the Vice-Chancellor, should not have been the University nominee for the inspection.
The University of Mumbai has further clarified that:

a Since the original book written by the Governor was published by the Somaiya group of companies, the translated book co-authored by the Vice-Chancellor was also published by the said group.

b The Vice-Chancellor8217;s recommendation to the Medical Council of India that Somaiya Medical College be permitted to admit 100 students was on the basis of consistently good results at MBBS examinations, including top ranks bagged by students of the college in the last few years.
