Union Minister Ram Naik replies to The Indian Express report titled 8216;8216;End of Mumbai darkness? Naik needs to see light8217;8217;:
I am enclosing a few electricity bills of residents of Chikuwadi which clearly show that it is not in darkness as said in your news item. The area has a population of over 3,500.
The area is already electrified. A few houses are indeed in darkness for two reasons. Firstly, because some have not paid up the BSES estimated amount. Secondly, a small area needs a transformer on the collector8217;s land, for which procedural work is almost over, and the residents are aware of these facts.
Another issue is of my flying from Delhi to inaugurate a village sub-station. Had it not been important, your representative would not have felt so bad for the people of Chikuwadi. Anyway, I did have many other engagements like the inauguration of Chemtech International Conference 038; Exhibition, Computer Centre for Girls8217; College out of my MP Fund, a Gymkhana at Borsapada, the Netaji Subhash Jayanti celebrations, Janata Darbar etc. However, I must state here that even if I had to attend only Dharavli8217;s function, I would have come, as I do care for my people8212;particularly the tribals.
