
An equal music
In these times when some of us are fast getting quite fanatical about our respective religions, it is heartening to know that The Good Sheperd Centre has organised an Inter Religious Meet on Prayer on Friday at 6.30 pm at Gulati Hall at Vincent8217;s school. The programme comprises of inter religious talks by experts in their own fields. It is the one chance to know more about the Islam, Baha8217;i, Zorastrianism, Judaism, Hinduism, Sikhism and Christianity. As they say that prayer keeps religion alive in the heart of man. What better way to live in harmony than with an understanding of each other8217;s faith that such programmes provide?
Diwali do
The Diwali spirit has also caught on for the Cancer Patients8217; Aid Association. They are organising a Diwali Party for cancer patients on November 4 at the Dr. Mrs. Erin Nagarwala School. The party scheduled to be held at 5.00 pm will have games, entertainment shows, eats and of course prizes for the little children. Dolly Rizvi, Director, who has been organizing such parties for the past two years, feels it is a good way to bring some cheer and light into the life of these intrepid fighters who are fighting this dreaded disease. Strumming strings BESIDES adoring food, the French also have a deep love for music. The Alliance Francaise of Pune is introducing a young musician whose area of specialty is the guitar to us Punekars. Jeremy Jouve who has won several awards for music abroad started learning the guitar at eight and gave his first concert at 11. The interesting part about Jouve is that he can interpret classical music with as much competence as he interprets contemporary music. Jouve8217;s show is open toall and best of all is also free is organised by the Poona Music Society on Saturday, 7 pm at Gulati hall, Vincent8217;s school.
Colours of freedom
The country is trying hard to eradicate polio. And one can see the efforts what with the intensive pulse polio campaign. But to drive home the message, the Rotary Club and the Inner Wheel Club of Pune Riverside, has invited entries from schools for a painting competition on Sunday at the residency Club. The topic is What I would like to be when I grow up in polio free India for kids between 5 and 8 and for children between 9 and 14 the subject is Polio-free India. The drawing paper will be provide but the participants will have to bring the colours. Registration will be accepted at the venue and the reporting time is at 8 a.m. There is no entry free. Film time
For the film buffs, it will be a whale of a time. The Max Muellar Bhavan will screen a month-long retrospective of Rainer Weiner Fassbinder8217;s films from Monday. Internationally acclaimed as a chronologist of life and society in post-war Germany, Fassbinder is one of Germany8217;s most productive film-makers. With a rich background in action-theatre, he drew a regular set of actors. He is best known for his adaptations of classic German novels and his ability to traverse the layers of society and the ability to judge human nature. Some films that will be screened include Gods of the Plague and The Merchant of Four Seasons. Happy viewing.
The write stuff
The British Library, Pune will put on display from October 30 to November 3 the six short-listed titles for the Booker Prize including this year8217;s winner J M Coetzee8217;s Disgrace. They will be released for circulation from next Thursday. Also in the list is Anita Desai8217;s Fasting, Feasting that reveals two different ways of assuaging human hungers, desires and appetites. Book lovers, you know where to head.
A taste of money
Guess who is laughing all the way to the bank? None other than the Royal Western India Turf Club RWITC. And no, it is not because of the races, but because of the savvy idea to have a Club Nite, so that members who are not race enthusiasts can also have a good time. Well, the good time was really good for RWITC. For not only did the Galdrags tamasha give the event that zing, but also filled up the Club8217;s coffers. According to Vivek Jain of RWITC the nite raked in Rs Three lakhs. Now, the management is planning to repeat the Pune success story at Mumbai also. Guess amche Pune can teach a thing or two to tyanchi Mumbai?
