
German ambassador meets Governor Alexander
German Ambassador in India, Dr Heinrich Dietrich Dieckmaan, called on Governor of Maharashtra Dr P C Alexander at Raj Bhavan on Friday morning. The Governor explained the advantages of investing in Maharashtra saying that with abundant power, good connectivity by surface, air and sea, presence of financial institutions and established traditions of good administration, the State provides everything that foreign investors look for. Both the Governor and the Ambassador hoped that academic and cultural exchange between the two countries would increase in the coming years.
Birla Award to Pandit Ram Narayan
The fourth Aditya Vikram Birla Kalashikhar Puraskar for 1999 has been conferred on sarangi maestro Pandit Ram Narayan. The award is in honour of his lifetime achievement in the Hindustani classical instrumental music category.
Internet training for doctors
Help will offer a free internet training course for doctors called doctor.comby Dr Hufrish Suraliwala, medical information manager at HELP. She will provide training for a period of one month from November 15 onwards. Doctors will be taught on how to search the net for health and medical information. Catholic Sabha academic awards
The Bombay Catholic Sabha will organise its ninth annual academic awards function on November 14 at the St Michael8217;s School Auditorium, Mahim. This year too, 170 students of the parish communities from all over Mumbai will receive scholarships, cash awards and certificates for academic excellence. The awards cover almost every field of academics.
Our Lady of Nazareth statue
The statue of Our Lady of Nazareth which is going round from parish to parish in Mumbai will be coming to the Holy Name Cathedral in Colaba on November 9, 1999 at 4 pm and will be accorded a ceremonial reception by theArchbishop of Bombay, Dr Ivan Dias, at 6.15 pm. The statue will be taken in procession to the Holy Name Oratory compound where two cardinals, the Archbishop and 15 priests will concelebrate Mass. A cultural dance will be staged and a candle-light procession will go down Wodehouse Road, Madame Cama Road, Cooperage Road and return to the Church.
