The Central Information Commission CIC on Wednesday recommended both Houses of Parliament to make available information on the marital status of MPs Dharmendra and Hema Malini. In a carefully-drafted order to the secretariats of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, Chief Information Commissioner Wajahat Habibullah delivered a non-binding instruction to provide relevant details on the issue.
The order comes on the basis of an RTI request by Subhash Aggarwal seeking information if the two MPs, both actors-turned-politicians, were married to each other and whether they had shared any information on their marital status.
The RTI applicant had appealed to the CIC to direct Parliament officials to furnish correct details about the them. As per Lok Sabha, wife of BJP MP Dharmendra is Prakash Deol. Whereas Rajya Sabha MP Hema Malini in her submissions has claimed Dharmendra Deol to be her husband. The Rajya Sabha Secretariat said 8220;spouse of Hema Malini is Dharmendra and the information is based on the bio-data submitted by the MP in the House8221;.
Aggarwal, who wanted to know about the discrepancies in the answers, was told by the Rajya Sabha Secretariat that under the RTI Act, the resolution of discrepancies in the information available with the two secretariats is not their mandate. Lok Sabha Secretariat through several letters had mentioned that Dharmendra did not supply any information about his wife to the 8216;Who8217;s Who Cell8217;.
