Seenu Singh is one of the few Indian names among the up-and-coming classical pianists. Now Belgium-based Singh is ready to hold his first major concert in Delhi this week 8212; and, as in most of his performances, this one will feature his favourite classical composer, Freacute;deacute;ric Chopin.
8220;I was two when my father brought home a tape of the polonaises of Chopin. Without even knowing what it was, I found myself fascinated,8221; says the 23-year-old, who left India as a child. As a six-year-old, he began to tinkle out nursery rhymes on the piano, and, after a while, smaller compositions of Chopin. Soon, the government of Flanders began to promote his Chopin Recital in institutions across the country.
8220;Chopin8217;s music is a union of elegant, expressive melodies and experimental, rich harmonies, all combined with brilliant piano technique,8221; says Singh. A frequent visitor to India, he performed the Chopin Recital in Mumbai earlier this year and then followed it up with another in Pune.
His recital in Delhi will be at India International Centre on Oct 3. Contact: 24619431
