China, the world’s most populous country, has significantly eased its mandatory one-child family planning policy, allowing couples to have a second child if they are single children of their parents.
Spokesperson of China’s National Population and Family Planning Commission Yu Xuejun said in an interview that this change is applicable in all provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities, except Henan Province, which is the most populated province with more than 97 million residents.
In addition, over 11 per cent of the population, mostly minority groups like Tibetans, is free to have two or more children, he said.
