SINGAPORE, OCT 1: There were no medals for India on the opening day of the Asian Junior athletic championships, as China announced their domination of the biennial championships yesterday night.

Indian shot putter Saroj Sihad’s effort, a fourth place in women’s shot put was the best showing from India. In other events, India’s N Gojen was sixth in 5,000m, after looking a medal contender till the final lap.

Results

Men: 5000m: Hongru Sun (China) 14:46.84, Makih Al Khattabi (Saudi), Abdul Aziz (Qatar), 6 Gojen Singh.

Women: 5000m: Yong Ok Jong (N Korea) 16:55.28, Myong Sil Ri (N Korea), Kayoko Fukushi (Jap). Shot put: Mei Ju Li (China) 16.45m, Mei Hong (China), Chinatsu Mori (Japan), 4 Saroj Sihad (Ind) 13.89m. 100m hurdles: Takao Baba (Japan) 14.07s, Li Liu (China) 14.07s, Yueh Chin Lin (Taiwan). Javelin: Bei Bei Du (China) 55.30m, Lin Liu (China), Chia Yu Chen (Taiwan).
