KHARAR, Oct 24: As many as 1,41,772 children, below the age of 5 years, were given oral polio vaccine during the first phase of the Intensive Pulse Polio Immunisation IPPI programme. As many as 783 camps were set up all over the Roopnagar district on Sunday.

Giving this information here this evening, Deputy Commissioner Kulbir Singh Sidhu said 1,27,801 children had been identified for immunisation before the launching of the first phase of the programme.

He said 1,566 teams had been formed. The teams went around from house to house to administer the twin oral doses of the vaccine irrespective of the fact whether the children had been given the dose earlier or not.
