Chawla case: Centre will submit views in writing

The Government will furnish before the Supreme Court its submissions which would form its basis to oppose senior BJP leader Jaswant Singh8217;s petition challenging the appointment of Navin Chawla as Election Commissioner.

After Additional Solicitor General Gopal Subramanium sought more time to conclude arguments on behalf of the Centre, the Bench of Justices Ashok Bhan and Dalveer Bhandari said: 8220;We know more or less the legal issues raised by you, but we want you to place before us your written submission to understand your views.8221;

8220;We would have allowed you to go ahead if you could finish your argument today, but you are seeking more time,8221; it said subsequently, posting the matter for hearing on July 24. The arguments would be completed within three days.
