
Three-day mourning in Haryana
To mourn the demise of former Prime Minister of the nation, Gulzari Lal Nanda, the Haryana Government has declared three-day state mourning, as a mark of respect. There will be no official entertainment and the national flag will be hoisted at half-mast.
Army day observed
A wreath was laid at the Veer Smriti war memorial by the Chief of Staff, Western Command, Lt Gen H.R.S. Mann at Chandimandir to mark the Army Day today. A large number of officers, JCOs and other ranks stationed at Chandimandir attended the memorial service.
Shock at students8217; death
Staff and the students of Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 46, have condoled the loss due to the untimely death of students of the school who drowned in Padma River at Jalangi in Murshidabad district of West Bengal.
Jhuggi dwellers stage protest
A rally was taken out by members of Jhuggi-Wasi Sangarsh Samiti in support of their demands of allotment of sites to the residents of colonies in Kajheri village. The chief convenor of the samiti, Manjit Kaur, highlighted the demand of the rallyists, that the service sites be given only to the jhuggi wallas residing in Kajheri village itself.
Function in memmory of K.L.Saigal
A tribute will be paid to K.L.Saigal, by the Environment Society of India which will organise a function commemorating his 51st death anniversary. The function will be organised at Aroma hotel, Sector 22 on January 18 from 10 am to 1 pm.
Rural Congmen meet chief engineer
A deputation of Chandigarh District Congress Committee Rural, called on the Chief Engineer UT and aprised him of the excess reporting of power load by the personnel of the electricity department. The spokesman for the committee, B.M. Khanna, in a press release stated that it was demanded that the disconnection of power supply and removal of electricity meters be done in the presence of the consumers and the kundi connections be checked.
CHB staff to stage dharna today
Gate meeting was held today by the members of Chandigarh Housing Board Employees Co-ordination Committee in support of the long pending demands of employees. These include framing of service rule of Chandigarh Housing Board, conformation of Board8217;s employee on the pattern of CITCO, regularisation of daily wages and work charge employees. According to the chairman of the committee, Kuldeep Kumar, a resolution has been passed to sit in dharna on January 16 in the premises of Chandigarh Housing Board.
PU to conduct B.H.M.S. test
Panjab University will conduct the Combined Entrance Test-1998 for the Bachelor of Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery B.H.M.S. and not for diploma in Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery D.H.M.S. as was inadvertently mentioned in the press release issued earlier. The test will be conducted on May 15 and 16. According to an official spokesman for the university, the test will also be conducted for admission to the 1st year of Bachelor of Engineering, including Chemical Engineering, Bachelor of Architecture, M.B.B.S, Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery, Bachelor of Pharmacy, and B.Sc Honours School8217;.
Hauling up of security officer lauded
The Yuva Samajwadi Janta Party, Rakesh Sharma has in a release issued here today expressed his gratitude to the university authorities for hauling up Chief Security Officer, Sita Ram who had slapped and threatened three employees and one student of evening studies.
