
Amartya Sen wins Nobel Prize
Amartya Sen, who took economics to the exalted heights of philosophy with his stress on welfare, was today chosen for this year8217;s coveted Nobel Prize which many felt was long overdue. Announcing the award in Stockholm, the Royal Swedish Academy of Science said Sen was chosen for the honour for his contribution to welfare economics.
Action plan to fight terrorism
A seven-point action plan, calling for creation of special task forces to tackle the menace of ISI-sponsored terrorism and criminal gangs and reorientation of criminal justice system, was formulated at a meeting of Chief Ministers of seven northern states in New Delhi today.
Outbreak of cholera feared
Cholera outbreak is feared in Ludhiana as in the past few days at least 60 positive cases of cholera have been reported in the Dayanand Medical College. Of these, 40 have been referred by the city nursing homes for culture test.
