PUNE, SEPT 14: Champions Sports Club came storming back from a 0-2 deficit to beat Vande Mataram 4-2 in the Sacchidanand Gandham Memorial hockey tournament at the PCMC Poligras Stadium today.

Left-winger Alvin Thomas cracked home a rebound off goalkeeper Champions goalkeeper Wahed Pathan to put Vande Mataram ahead in the 14th minute, after the custodian blocked twice.

A penatly stroke, awarded by umpire Bimal Benidict in the 20th minute, enabled Vinod Pillay score from the spot to put Vande Mataram on top.Champions pulled one back by half-time with a goal by centre-half Vivek Kale who scored after accepting a pass by right-back Victor Savio in the 26th minute.

Kale then paved way for the equaliser in the second half, giving right-half Vikas Pillay the opportunity to hammer home in the 37th minute before Champions burst into the lead in the very next minute.

Centre-forward Vishal Puttol put Champions ahead for the first time in the match from left-winger Omrang Sheikh before the fourth goal arrived in the 46th minute.

Puttol was the provider for right-winger Basheer Shaikh to put the match out of Vande Mataram8217;s reach.

512 Army Workshop failed to turn up for their encounter with Wadia College who gain a walkover into the next round.
