New Delhi/Baripada, Feb 6: The Centre today asked the Orissa Government to investigate the alleged rape of a nun in Mayurbhanj district as Christians from the state took out a procession in Bhubaneswar demanding security and police made little headway in the investigations.Home Minister L K Advani told a press conference in Coimbatore that he would expect the state police to investigate the incident and arrest whosoever was involved. While the Orissa BJP felt there was a conspiracy behind the incident and demanded dismissal of the J B Patnaik Government, BJP's allies demanded strong action against the culprits.AIADMK supremo J Jayalalitha said in Chennai that the `brutal assault' on the 35-year-old Tamil speaking nun in Krushnachandrapur had sullied the image of India globally and demanded that Central and state governments should make all efforts to nab the culprits without delay and any mercy.Meanwhile, the needle of suspicion in the nun rape case near Baripada is being directed towards the`fundamentalist' forces again with the priest-in-charge of the local catholic church Father Roy Kuchpurikal suspecting the hand of some `notorious communal groups' behind the incident.Father Roy who took over charge six months back said that the rape of the nun was `pre-planned' by some groups who have been active in some pockets of the area since the last few years. The case has taken a curious turn with the conductor and cleaner of the Satyanarayan bus in which the nun is stated to have travelled from Baisinga to Gadadeulia, revealing before the police that `only one nun' travelled in that bus from Baripada to Gadadeulia. The conductor is stated to have said that the nun who sat on seat number three shifted to the last seat near the window as she was feeling nausea. But the conductor and cleaner of the bus failed to identify the nun in the test identification parade as she had covered her face with a towel during her journey.Police has so far interrogated 60 persons in connection with this incidentincluding the conductor, cleaner of the bus and the nuns of the Badadeulia church. The nuns of the Badadeulia church have reportedly told the police during interrogation that the victim got down from the same bus. However, Father Roy declined to name the communal organisation which he believes is behind the incident. He said that one of the communal group had a brainstorming session at a Gymnasium near Tamana village, two kilometers from here.
