Elizabeth Hurley on issues close to her heart

When Elizabeth Hurley walks into a room, people stop and stare. In Mumbai for the Estee Lauder Companies8217; Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign on Thursday, Hurley looked resplendent in pink as she strode towards the crowd that thronged to see her, if not to support the cause. Hurley has been the face and now the spokes-model for the perfume megabrand, and clearly takes her role seriously 8212; she got her family to pitch in, with husband Arun Nayyar wearing a pink tie and her six-year-old son Damien a pink turban.

8220;It8217;s a cause that has affected me personally,8221; the model explained, 8220;I lost an aunt to breast cancer and three of my friends were diagnosed with it. Luckily for them, it was detected in the early stages, so they survived.8221;

Every year a historic landmark is illuminated in pink glow by the Estee Lauder Foundation to raise awareness about breast cancer and, this year, the Taj Mahal Palace and Tower was chosen. 8220;I go around the world doing fundraisers every October and since India feels like home, it is really special for me to be part of this event here,8221; she said. 8220;And the Taj is where I spent my honeymoon.8221;

Demurely draped in a pink sari with silver rosettes, she said her Diwali plans were fixed. 8220;We will be in India during that time, so there are definitely plans to celebrate it, but I haven8217;t been invited to any Diwali parties yet,8221; she laughed.

The actor of Bedazzled and Austin Powers has already declared her love for Bollywood and her desire to act in a movie here. But what about Indian fashion? Has she attended the Lakme Fashion Week that is currently going on? 8220;We just got into town, so let8217;s see what happens,8221; she said. 8220;But I generally do make it a point to attend such events.8221; Well, a showstopper on the front row is not a bad thing.
