THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, FEB 21

The Kerala police on Monday registered a case against former state transport minister A Neelalohithadasan Nadar for alleged sexual and official harassment of senior woman IAS officer, Nalini Netto.

The complaint under section section 354 of IPC was registered at the museum police station. Though no formal complaint was received from Nalini Netto, the police registered the case on the basis of her complaint to Chief Minister E K Nayanar on February nine.

Following the allegation, Nadar had resigned his ministership on February 12.

In her five-page complaint, Netto had given a detailed account of how Nadar as minister had misbehaved with her in his chamber in the legislature complex on December 21, when she went on his request for a discussion on some official matters.

Last week, the Chief Minister had forwarded the complaint to chief secretary M Mohankumar for 8220;taking actions as per law.8221;

The registration of the case was in addition to thejudicial inquiry already announced by the Kerala Government. The Chief Minister had already clarified that both the judicial inquiry and criminal case could go on simultaneously.

The Chief Minister8217;s office forwarded the complaint to the police in view of the Supreme Court guidelines on cases relating to sexual harassment at workplaces.

The case was registered under section 354 which stated that assault on any woman with the intention of outraging her modesty shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend up to two years, or fine, or both.
