
CHANDIGARH, April 30: A massive campaign is being organised in Amritsar, Gurdaspur, Ludhiana and Patiala by the Punjab State AIDS Control Society, Directorate of Health Services, as part of the Family Health Awareness Week _ which will conclude tomorrow. The campaign aims at creating awareness about Sexually Transmitted Diseases STDs including Aids among the rural population. The health workers are filling up house-to-house contact cards to estimate the population between the age group of 15 to 49 years.
meanwhile, on the fifth day of Family Health Awareness Week, State AIDS Control Society in association with non government organisations, organised four AIDS awareness-cum-medical detection camps in Mauli Jagran, Betrela, Nehru Colony and Hallomajra.
Mayor Kewal Krishan Adiwal visited the camp held for the diagnosis and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases and reproductive tract infections at Hallomajra in collaboration with an NGO, Surya Foundation, Free medicines were also distributed. Blood samples of the patients suspected to be suffering from STDs and RTIs were also taken. Lions Club Lotus organised an AIDS awareness camp, in Buterala village, in collaboration with the Health Department, where 300 patients were examined by the PGI doctors.
In another camp organised by Society for Service to Voluntary Agencies at Darua village yesterday, 229 patients were examined and 57 blood samples were collected from the risk population for the diagnosis of STDs.
