AKOLA, APRIL 6: The police have failed to make any breakthrough in nabbing the culprit involved in the murder of a prominent city businessman, Gangadhar Agrawal, even four days after the incident took place. The investigating officer and the DSP were understood to have been under pressure from BJP, the ruling partner of the State alliance Government. The local BSP MLA, Gowardhan Sharma, and the district BJP chief, Madanlal Khandelwal have urged the police not to harass the businessman's two sons, one of whom resided in the same bungalow where Agrawal's dead body was found. This was confirmed by the DSP Ramrao Bachhewar. The police have ruled out robbery as the motive behind the murder.Earlier, the police registered the offence under Section 460 of the IPC on the basis of the FIR filed by Girish Agrawal, son of the deceased, and as the victim resisted the killer. The first postmortem report showed that he was smothered to death. So the police have also added Section 302 to the case.It is felt thatGangadhar Agrawal was murdered by a person who was intimate with the family. Nothing was stolen from the victim's room nor from the almirahs in another room. His dog, which is usually left loose, did not bark when the person entered. Moreover, the victim's room was locked from the inside and it is still a mystery how the person gained entry into the room. The recorded statement of Panjabrao Kute, the building watchman, was understood to have been different from that of Girish Agrawal.Gangadhar Agrawal was popular for the land he donated for the Sant Tukaram hospital on Gorhshan Road, set up by former minister, the late Sananlal Goenka. The deceased was 82 years old and allegedly had some feud with his other son Kedar, who was living separately. The investigating officer and PSO of Ramdas Peth police station A D Patil is tight-lipped and instructed his staff not to divulge anything in the murder case.Girish has reportedly gone to perform the last rituals at Haridwar. He has already been interrogatedby the police.Circumstantial evidence points towards Girish as a probable suspect, but the police have not arrested him, allegedly due to pressure from the BJP.
