DERA BASSI, Nov 18: Burglars struck Mubarik village on Chandigarh-Ambala highway in the wee hours of Monday and took away cash and other articles.

According to police sources, burglars about seven in number broke into one electronic and two kiryana shops at about 1 a.m. They decamped with a colour television among other valuable articles and cash.

An eyewitness told Newsline that the burglars aged between 25 and 40 years were carrying rods and a country made pistol. Their faces were half covered.Soon after getting the information, the police reached the venue and started investigation.

Expressing serious concern over the growth in accidents on Chandigarh-Ambala Highway, DSP Harcharan Singh Bhullar told local mediaperson that a round-the-clock mobile service would soon be introduced between Zirakpur and Lalru for providing immediate medical aid.

He further added that all police stations had been directed to intensify night patrolling. Thikri pehras have already set up in almost all villages under the supervision of sarpanch, he said.
