June 11: Four unidentified persons gunned down a city builder and seriously injured his friend this afternoon at Malad W.Ajay Mishra the builder and his friend Sheikh were at their flat in Manali Building, Evershine Nagar, at around 12.15 p m, when four persons barged into their flat, fired nine rounds and vanished.While Mishra succumbed to his injuries in a nearby hospital, the condition of Sheikh is stated to be critical.

A case of attempt to murder has been registered.New twist toSalafi caseEXPRESS NEWS SERVICEJUNE 11The conspiracy surrounding the assassination bid on Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray took a curious turn today when the Central Bureau of Investigation CBI failed to transfer Abdulla Salafi, the prime accused in the case, to the city police for further investigation.

Salafi is currently with CBI, New Delhi, after the chief metropolitan magistrate, Esplanade court, ordered his custody till June 11, 1997. His judicial custody has been extended to June 25.The crime branch had accused Abdulla Abdul Majid Salafi of conspiring to kill Thackeray on March 12 this year. Following the alleged plot the Mumbai police arrested Salafi near Ankur Cinema, Govandi on March 11, claim the police.Several inconsistencies were found in police investigations into Salafi8217;s plot8217;. Also, the crime branch never mentioned in their remand application that the accused was involved in plotting to kill Thackeray.Not surprisingly, the police have been claiming judicial custody of Salafi to interrogate him in connection with the Noorul Haq Ansari and his son Nasrool8217;s murder at Bandra on November 4, 1996. According to eyewitness Anthony Francis, the accused entered shop G3, Sonu Shopping Centre, Bandra W and fired seven rounds killing the two on the spot.Adding to the mystery, Anthony has since long gone underground and the police are unable to carry out a trial identification parade TIP to confirm Salafi8217;s involvement in the Ansari killing too.
