A BSP leader from Shrawasti district, Vikramaditya Satya, landed in jail on Tuesday after he allegedly beat up Babu Laal, the Sub-District Magistrate (SDM) of Ikauna tehsil. He allegedly beat up Laal when the latter objected to an encroachment carried out by Satya on a government plot.
Satya, however, alleged that he was being framed in a false case and was beaten up by the SDM’s staff because he did not pay the bribe demanded by Laal. The SDM, on the other hand, said the BSP leader had encroached upon government land around his brick-kilns.
“During my inspection visit two days ago, I noticed the encroachment and directed his employees to immediately vacate the land,” said the SDM, a Dalit. “On Monday, Satya came to my chamber with some of his supporters. They hurled casteist abuses, pulled me off my seat by the collar and threw me on the ground. He threatened me to ignore the encroachments or face dire consequences,” added the SDM.
Subsequently, Laal lodged an FIR with the local police under the SC/ST act and the police arrested the BSP leader.
Jagdeesh Satya, Vikramaditya’s elder brother, refuted the allegations.
