Baffled over the visit of around 100 tourists from Mumbai to the forward border outposts (BOPs) along the Indo-Pak border here, BSF authorities today ordered a probe to find out how the visit took place.
‘‘We have ordered a probe into the circumstances which led to the visit of a group of 100 Mumbai tourists to BOP Suchetgarh on the International Border (IB) in RS Pura area of Jammu frontier on May 6,’’ a BSF spokesperson said.
Officials said a group of around 100 tourists from Mumbai had visited forward IB, besides entering bop Octeri right on zeroline and had photographed and video-recorded the sensitive area without taking permission from the BSF.
The spokesperson said the authorities had taken cognisance and the inquiry had been initiated into the matter. He added that even journalists were not allowed to visit the post without prior permission from BSF authorities.
‘‘It is ironical that a group of 100-odd tourists from Mumbai were seen moving freely on the BOP main gate and some of them were shooting films with their video cameras,’’ he said. A photo of the tourists and news of the visit was published in a local daily and it had created a ‘‘piquant situation’’ for the authorities, the spokesperson added. ‘‘The officials have initiated an inquiry to know who granted them permission,’’ he added.
