All that glitters is gold. And the Tribhovandas Bhimji Zaveri family, that has been been in the jewellery business for over 130 years, proves that adage. Arguably the city8217;s best-known jewellers, their name comes with an implicit stamp of quality and trust.

Now, they want that quiet assurance to reach out to every part of Mumbai. And the first step in that direction was taken when they opened their new store on Hughes Road. Elegantly decorated with an arched facade of lilac and pink orchids, the store also discards the traditional opulent exteriors of old-time jewellery stores.

But this new look is all a part of a savvy business strategy. Says Nirmal Zaveri, who has been in the line for 30 years, quot;You have to branch out and come closer to your clients. NRIs and locals now need easy access to stores.quot;

Which is why TBZ decided to take the business out of Zaveri Bazaar, the traditional home for most established jewellers. Today, TBZ has stores at Richie Rich, and A-Z, in Borivli. The timing could not havebeen better. The 1,300 sqft store has opened just in time for the festive season, which is followed by the wedding season.

And Zaveri is not worried about the increasing competition in the market. quot;You have to cater to the niche, which is what we are doing,quot; says he. His plush store has a large stock of designs and caters to the higher-end of the market. He will also be selling Cartier and Harry Winston watches. And Zaveri himself will be tending to customers, as he plans to sit at the Hughes Road store.
