8226; Apropos of 8216;The marriage of a national hero8217; IE, May 19, it was in the late fifties when news came that Anita, daughter of Subhas Chandra Bose, along with her mother, will be visiting India. They lived in Czechoslovakia. It generated great excitement. Netaji, who could not breathe the air of free India, had at least left a daughter to do so. The news was so big that Nehru made a statement in Parliament. He disclosed that Subhas Bose had written a letter to him about his marriage to his secretary, Emilie Schenkl, while in Germany and that they have a daughter. He had asked Nehru to look after them should this become necessary. I distinctly remember there was no criticism of Netaji8217;s marriage from any quarter then. Anita and Emilie were warmly received. In the excitement, no one asked Nehru to reveal the full text of that letter and how Netaji, then in Germany, could have had it delivered to him in India during the World War II. These details still remain a mystery.
