As the role of the national selectors comes under scrutiny after another under-par season, Sanjay Jagdale fires one shot for his tribe: It8217;s the BCCI who should be more professional in how they deal with selectors.

8216;8216;The main problem with the BCCI is that they don8217;t allow the selectors to watch enough of domestic cricket8217;8217;, says Jagdale, whose term as national selector coincided almost entirely with that of coach John Wright. 8216;8216;We only get to see players in the Duleep Trophy, the knockout phase of the Ranji Trophy and that8217;s it.8217;8217;

For selectors to put together the best possible team, Jagdale argues, they need to watch more games and also teams that don8217;t reach the knockout phase.

8216;8216;How do we know if there is an interesting player in Vidarbha or Kerala who can contribute to the team in the first 15 overs with the bat or bowl well with the old ball? These players miss out and that8217;s not fair8217;8217;, he adds.

8216;8216;Selectors should also be watching U-19 matches. Parthiv Patel was picked from there so maybe we could unearth another Parthiv,8221; he says.
