NEW DELHI, September 4: At least 1,700 Blueline buses returned to the Capital8217;s roads from late last evening. The bus owners had queued up at the State Transport Authority STA office since morning. They were initially told that they would be getting temporary permits valid for six months in batches of 200 at a time. And the process would take up to two weeks.
The STA officials, however, changed their stance towards the afternoon and announced that the bus operators who had valid permits up to June 15 could get their permits extended temporarily.
By the evening, owners of almost 1,700 buses had obtained extended permits which will allow them to run their buses for the next 20 days. The six-month permits will be cleared in the interim period, after taking various aspects such as latest vehicle fitness certificates into consideration.
All these buses will run on the same routes, which was followed prior to the June 15 notification. Bus owners have also been asked to continue with the existing fare structure.
