PALAMPUR, April 19: Local Congress MLA and former chief parliamentary secretary B.B. Butail yesterday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party workers of brow beating the officers of various departments of this division.

Addressing media persons here, he charged that that this tendency on the part of the BJP workers had slowed down the pace of development in the area.

He said that interference had increased to such an extent that even grass root workers of the BJP were threatening block officials to divert funds sanctioned from the discretionary quota of the MPs.

Describing the practice as unfortunate, Butail said that if the party failed to discipline its cadre, it would lead to resentment among the state officials and the general public. This may ultimately cause the downfall of the government, he warned.

He said that he had already written to Chief Minister P K Dhumal in this regard and added that he would raise the matter on the very first day of budget session of state Assembly.

He accused the BJP government of neglecting certain areas in the division on political considerations. He cited the example of Manjha-Paraour road where one-kilometer patch out of the total of four-kilometer stretch had been left out without tarring. He claimed that this was done because funds for tarring of Palampur-Dadh road were sanctioned during the Congress regime.

Talking about the recent Assembly elections results, he claimed that though there was nothing against the Congress as such in the verdict, factors like cutting into votes by the HVC, had affected the final outcome.
